Finding out how fast we can lap a BONE STOCK G87 M2 at VIR
Intro - 0:00
Shop prep - 0:27
At VIR, first 2 sessions 100% stock - 6:51
James push lap 100% stock - 19:26
PFC pads + Camber laps - 26:30
Push laps w/ Hoosiers - 37:30
Data recap/final results w/ Phil - 47:45

After a little bit of prep in the BimmerWorld shop we took our brand new G87 M2 to VIR for its first track day. And we are going about this project as systematic as possible, so the first day at the track was going to be setting a baseline lap time with it 100% stock. Stock power/tune, stock suspension, even stock brake pads and tires as delivered from the factory.
From there we added a little bit of camber to the front with the help of Ground Control camber/caster plates and a set of PFC 331/332 brake pads. Everything else still 100% stock.
The last runs were done with a set of Hoosier R7s, but because of the sizes available we actually had to go with a slightly "smaller" front size with a 265/35/19 and 295/30/19 rears.
So, how fast do you think we can take this bone stock car around the beautiful 3.27 miles of Virginia International Raceway's full course? You may be surprised just how fast this car is out the box. And now that we have this baseline we can start adding some go-fast parts and see how quick we can make this M2!

We have only had our project G87 M2 a couple of days when this video was shot and we knew one of the VERY FIRST things we needed to do is protect the nose full of coolers that this M2 and most late-model turbocharged BMWs have. Thankfully for us Zunsport creates the best solution on the market for adding some much needed protection while also adding some cosmetic appeal as well if you ask us. T...

BMW Service Mode - Simple tip on changing windshield wipers.

As simple and boring as changing your windshield wipers can be, BMW has found a way to make it more complicated. Now a days your wipers are tucked out of the way under the hood line for aerodynamic reasons. But this means trying to pop them up to do a simple wiper swap isn't possible without making contact with your hood and very easily nicking the paint. Phil shows you the very simple way to g...

Cool video! Fun to see the progress on track. I liked the data analysis also. As a g87 owner, would be cool to see a camber plate install video. I noticed the damper completely removed and maybe the bump stops modified?
Not bad for a 3800# porker. Great data breakdown.
Nice video guys!
Thanks for the video. Great to see how this car will develop from stock. A 2:03 is mighty impressive given the heat that day!!
Great stuff as usual guys! thank you
Great video! Also, how is the Bmw 435i coming along. Looking forward to that build too.
The F32 project is rolling right along. We'll have some updates on that very very soon.
@@BimmerWorldMedia Awesome!
Best video has down on documenting stock config and its potential with the parts installed. Can’t wait to see this thing continue to slash lap times. 💪
Great presentation on the baseline runs. I am following this closely. Very impresssive car.
Great video and information, thank you! Can you mention what hot pressures you were targetting and getting with the PS4S tires please?
We started at ~24 and target was 30 hot for both the Michelins and Hoosiers.
Which thread chaser can I use and recommendations? I looked at the duralast one from autozone says is for spark plugs. Will this work? Thanks
Very simply presented with logical explanation. I am about to put spacers on my Mazda Mx5 ND2 for daily driving (no tracking intended ever). But I will go for sure for top of the range spacers. Price is not an issue when your life depends on it.
Nice build. Sounds like my list except I did the LPFP for E85, Wagner TMIC and was too cheap to do a built motor but who knows… maybe one day 😅
I want to do this but single turbo calling my name
how much would something like this cost
Thumbnail wheel? Love those GT4 style always want them in street size.
That is our brand new BimmerWorld Forged TA55 in Trophy Gold. They are officially being released VERY soon, probably early July. We'll definitely have videos on it when they go public. We just did a test day with our G87 M2 with them wrapped in Hoosiers and they were a big hit on the white G87 as well.
@@BimmerWorldMedia Can’t wait to see them on G87. I will get those for mine as well. Also looking for the G87 project! Please do suspension next time.
So much white 🤣
White is the cheapest color
Where are the canards from?
They are our own GTMore style dive planes - found here: www.bimmerworld.com/BimmerWorld-GTMore-Jumbo-Dive-Plane-Set-F8X-M3-M4.html
Looking forward to seeing what you guys do with this car! Zion
Trevor Lawrence! No way Trevor Lawrence! Get your ass over here and give me a hug 🤗
I am on a Stage 2 map in a 112k BMW M4. Granted, I may be one of the lucky ones, but haven't had any issues yet for at least 20k miles since the car has been tuned. Now just because I haven't had an issue, doesn't mean you will. If you have the money, GET IT DONE.
How do ppl think the crank hub is an issue..it is widely regarded as a myth
Going to follow this closely, Especially your approach to suspension. I currently have some Eibach springs to clean things up and hold me over, but this is my daily and starting next year quarterly track car haha. Currently running most of Verus Engineering aero parts, just need to pick up the front splitter and skirts.
We have our first track day with the car coming up in a few weeks and that will give us our baseline on the stock suspension. After that we'll dive right in and start playing with some suspension options so you'll definitely see some G87 suspension tech headed your way soon - be sure to subscribe if you haven't already so you don't miss any of it!
What about airflow? The car will tend to overheat due to restricted overflow with this mod.
Not a concern at all, the mesh is tight enough to keep debris out, but still plenty of open space to allow for airflow and cooling to be unchanged. Honestly cooling is not even a slight concern while adding these. Our racecars get an even tighter mesh applied to the front of the coolers for protection and they too have zero cooling issues.
@@BimmerWorldMedia I've seen lots of examples when people had issues due to the mesh installed on different cars. Maybe it's not a problem in this particular case, but it's still worth to keep it in mind.
@@freemanoid321 Appreciate the heads up, its absolutely not a concern with these grilles.
Love it 😍
I still can’t get over how atrocious this car looks.
Eh, some hate it, some love it. We certainly are a fan and we are ready to really see how we can up the performance! And hey....can't see what it looks like from the driver's seat with a helmet on! :)
do you have anything like this for a g20?
Now our G87 M2 is ready for its first track day - which is coming up VERY soon! Stay tuned!
That oil cooler is going to need a bit more protection...
This is plenty protection actually. Similar to your F8x its tucked well up out of the way so this is just to keep some rogue road debris from causing a puncture or cause damage to the fins. If you've really damaged this cooler than you have far bigger issues going on and usually considerable front end damage to worry about. No cover will fully bulletproof the coolers, but this certainly gives a decent layer of protection and some peace of mind.
Better than nothing, for sure, but I could run over a Miata with my Fall Line and be fine. ;)
They are certainly two different products. Yours is a skid plate that adds some strength (and weight) to an area that rarely sees a direct impact from something large while leaving large holes in the area where smaller debris can still reach the cooler fins. The Zunsport is a very simple, lightweight way to keep small debris from damaging/puncturing the cooler while leaving it tucked up and out of the way. The oil cooler's location is far higher than the lowest edge of the front bumper. That Miata you run over will take out the rest of the coolers in the nose on the way to your beefy skid plate. The skid plate idea sounds like a great idea on paper and coming from past BMWs that relied on skid plates to protect the OIL PAN because it WAS the lowest hanging item under the car it uses that same fear on a cooler that just is not in the same location at all. In the end its whatever helps you and your oil cooler sleep at night. We love this simple, lightweight option from Zunsport!
Is there a follow up video if this and the results? Race an M4 GT4 in UK so interested
I have been telling people to NOT re-torque while hot for decades! Finally someone else understands and agrees! For studs without drylock, I brake clean soak 10x studs in a spray can lid at a time to clean them, air blast them, and use brake clean in the holes after chasing. DO NOT forget to shake the locktite between each application. It separates.
Thank you for that! 😎
Yall heading to Pikes Peak this year?
Sadly we are not. Our new HQ renovations and move seem to be the big project for 2024 and hasn't left a lot of time on the table to do Pikes. We'll see about 2025 once we are settled into the new digs!
So why not mount the bottle upright? Why is everyone mounting them on the side if that limits the use. Is there a best mount solution and would that be upright if you have an option?
I have heard a few people claim the S55 is not an interference engine, so if the crank hub spins, there will not be valve / piston contact. I find this hard to believe, because I've heard of valve / piston with a spun crank hub, but I think there was also a money shift involved. Can anyone confirm the S55 is or is not an interference engine?
This is one of the best insulation videos I’ve ever seen
I’ve used Vorshlag studs with the 5mm hex nose. I apply a little loctite and zip it in with a small impact. Never had a stud come out or break in the past 13 years.
Great video. Just put a set of these studs on my car two weeks ago with the same process. If you look at the jam nuts, you’ll notice that one side is smooth, and the other side has markings. I find it works better if the smooth sides are together so you get maximum tightness on the nuts. You can’t get as much friction on the marked side.
I wish in race mode with the G87 or i8 the screen instead of black was the rear view - so nice.
When I put on your wheel studs, I couldn't get the two jam/install nuts tight enough to get to 55 ft/lbs of torque - the nuts would spin. I think I only got to around 40 but that was about a year ago. I don't think that I am a whimp and couldn't get the nuts tight enough...not sure what was going on there. Thoughts on this?
Buy 12mm x 1.5mm flange nuts from mcmaster
I think it's cute you guys coordinate your hoodies. 🤣
530e X: drive shows 0w-20, Looks like they recommend higher numbers for decreased wear but what if you live in a cold climate?
Finally, a G8 M2 modified for the community. I am so subscriber’s.
Just trade me bumpers so y’all don’t mess with a GT4 front bumper. I’ll come to yall
can you guys tell us what mods the cs had please? most interested in chassis suspension tyres and brakes. thanks
Really great wheel i'll be picking up for my m3.
If someone is keeping the S55 completely stock, has there been any incidents of this spinning? I.e. is there anything a stock owner needs to worry about whatsoever?
Yes
So what happens when the fuel in driver side tank completely ends up, does it switch off. How does its switching on and off work? Edit: also whats its fuel suction rate?
This work on e36
Can y'all do a silicone intake boot for the e46 that doesn't suck like the one that starts with a T? :)
